Jim Minor
Our honorary veteran will ride in Liberty and lead our 4th Annual Poker Run – A Ride to Prevent Veteran Suicide.
Please join us in celebrating this year’s honorary veteran, Jim Minor nominated by Jeff Minor. Jim is retired from the Army.
Jim graduated Thomas Jefferson high school May of 1969. Jim then entered the army in July of 1969. He was sent to Fort Lewis, Washington for boot camp and Fort Ord, Washington for AIT. After the completion of his training, Jim was deployed to Vietnam, in November of 1969, and stationed in Country in Play Ku and Qui Nhon He entered Vietnam with the rank of Spec 4, he was assigned in Country to the 299th Engineers. During his service Jim was a shopvac operator, welder, machinist, built prefab bridges, and was a sharp shooter on M-14s and M-16s.
After his tour of duty in Vietnam, Jim was sent to Germany for a short stent, then returned to the states. In the states, he was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas, where he was in the MP motor pool as a mechanic.
Jim was honorably discharged by July of 1972. By his discharge he was well decorated receiving:
- The National Defense Service Medal
- Vietnam Service Medal
- Vietnam Campaign Medal
- Arcon Medal
After his honorable discharge, Jim enlisted in the Iowa National Guard. Jim served for two years in the Iowa National Guard as a cook, before being honorable discharged.
Jim now enjoys his life of retirement with his wife, Pam and their son family.
